Pennycook (and pounds) to get Labour people in
Sunday 14h March 2021
Our usual fundraiser for the May elections will be online this time but we have a very eye-catching keynote speaker.
Matthew Pennycook MP, Shadow Cabinet Minister for Climate Change, will be with us on Wednesday 31 March (via Zoom) at 7.15pm.
‘I’m delighted that Matthew will be “in West Cumbria” after he’s put the kids to bed,’ said Juliet Wilson, CLP chair. ‘We’ll be discussing the latest hot topics, from the proposed Whitehaven mine and the climate emergency, to jobs and industrial strategy, to flooding and the nuclear sector.’
Matthew is Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, was brought up by his mum and was the first to go to university from his family. Matthew got involved with the Child Poverty Action Group to ensure low-income families and children got a better deal and worked for the Fair Pay Network raising awareness of in-work poverty and pushing for action on low pay. He was a councillor in Greenwich before becoming an MP in 2015.
Said Juliet: ‘We need funding for leaflets and adverts to get our candidates elected and the meeting with Matthew is a fundraiser. If you can spare some money for the election campaign, please click on the red button at the bottom of this newsletter (100% goes to Workington CLP). Please don’t feel you have to – this is voluntary – but whatever you decide to give, it will go a long way. Thank you.’
A Zoom link will be sent to all CLP members the day before the meeting. Capacity is 100, so it will be first come, first served. Members take precedence, but guests can also be invited. If you would like to invite guests please contact the CLP secretary firstname.lastname@example.org with their details.
